Conversations with Doctors, Developers and Decision Makers to promote innovation and collaboration for better healthcare enabled by technology
Go and google ‘What is HealthTech’ and you will be inundated with definitions. In its simplest form, HealthTech describes the use of technology in the delivery of healthcare. We face a number of problems in the healthcare industry today: ageing population, longer life expectancy and increasing chronic disease. Our healthcare system is decent, but it’s still broken. We live in an age where all information is literally at our fingertips, and many patients want to be more engaged in their healthcare regime.
Health data needs to be more accessible, secure, and compatible than ever before. Also, Doctors need to suddenly start thinking more about the business side of their clinics. Patients aren’t happy to wait diligently to be blessed with the presence of the GP, nor do they want to just do what they’re told. Not even the physician can escape the need to deliver better customer service. Doctors are being paid pretty much the same as what they were getting 10 years ago, so they need to work out ways to justify charging more to the patient for an out of pocket expense.
We need to care for more people, do it in an efficient way yet still make it profitable for the providers, and deliver better patient outcomes. Whether directly or indirectly, technology is seen as a way to address all of these issues and save the day.
If only it was that simple…
