You cannot just do leadership, you must be leadership and never forget how hard it is

Expert In:

LEVELING UP IN BUSINESS, ALIGNING PURPOSE & PERFORMANCE, AUTHENTIC VULNERABLE AND COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP

BIO:
At age 24, I was the youngest CEO in the 160-year history of the AFL, the preeminent professional sporting competition in the country.

My first lesson came hard and fast. You cannot just DO leadership; you must BE leadership. I then spent the next 25 years as a CEO of AFL clubs learning what it meant to BE LEADERSHIP. It was 25 years of intense learning in the unforgiving, unrelenting and often ruthless environment of elite sport.

As CEO in this environment, the expectations of the position often move faster than your capacity to build capability. I was forever searching for learning and personal development experiences to match the expectations of the role.

It was a journey that would take me to some of the world’s best universities and most famous sporting clubs. I would seek and receive mentoring from thoughtful, inspirational and sometimes provocative leaders from sport, business and public life.

Forever a searcher, there was always the bedside table full of books, a selection of which would accompany me wherever my adventures took me, and whatever city our team played.

Cameron is one of Australia’s leading authorities on the topic of leadership so if your podcast is about growth, business or leadership then Cameron will be an ideal fit for your show.

After cutting his teeth as a recruiter at the Melbourne Football Club when the Demons made the finals for the first time in 23 years, Cameron was appointed CEO of the famous Richmond Football Club at age 24, the youngest in the history of the game.

For most of the next 25 years, he was CEO of Richmond, Melbourne and Fremantle, when those clubs were at their lowest ebb, both on and off the field. He is the second longest serving CEO in the modern game.

Having taken on some of the sport’s most difficult and daunting challenges, Cameron established a track record of building teams and organisations, unifying groups while navigating periods of genuine adversity and complexity.

Cameron holds an MBA and Master of Marketing from the Melbourne Business School. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at the Harvard Business School and is a Vincent Fairfax Fellow of the Centre of Ethical Leadership at University of Melbourne. He received his Coaching Certification from the Columbia Business School in New York.
